SleeveCycle is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to reducing plastic waste generated by the trading card hobby. We collect unused hobby supplies, prioritize reuse whenever possible, and recycle materials that cannot be reused. Our goal is to help collectors responsibly manage hobby plastics that are often not accepted in curbside recycling programs.

The trading card hobby relies heavily on plastic supplies to protect collectibles, including sleeves, top loaders, holders, and packaging materials. Most of these plastics are not accepted in municipal recycling programs, meaning they often end up in landfills. SleeveCycle provides collectors with a responsible alternative.

Many supplies used in the trading card hobby are made from plastics that are difficult for municipal recycling systems to process. Items such as penny sleeves, pack wrappers, and other thin plastic materials are often too small, lightweight, or flexible for standard recycling equipment. These materials can pass through sorting machinery or contaminate other recyclable materials.

In addition, some hobby packaging is made from multi-layer plastics, which are challenging for traditional recycling systems to separate and process. Because of these limitations, many municipal recycling programs ask residents to place these items in the trash.

SleeveCycle works to provide collectors with an alternative by collecting hobby plastics in larger quantities, prioritizing reuse, and directing materials to recycling partners whenever possible.

Every item received by SleeveCycle is processed according to a responsible environmental hierarchy:

• Reuse first – Supplies that remain usable are redistributed to collectors and community programs.
• Recycle when possible – Materials that cannot be reused are sorted and sent to recycling partners.
• Responsible disposal – Items that cannot currently be recycled are disposed of according to responsible waste management practices while we continue developing better recycling solutions.

SleeveCycle currently accepts clean, dry hobby plastics including:

• Penny sleeves
• Top loaders
• Semi-rigid holders
• Team bags
• Plastic slabs from graded cards that have been broken out
• Plastic wrappers from trading card packs

As long as materials are clean and reasonably intact, they may be suitable for reuse or recycling. Additional materials may be accepted in the future as recycling partnerships expand.

Sending materials to SleeveCycle helps extend the life of usable supplies and ensures plastics are directed toward recycling whenever possible. Even small contributions add up when thousands of collectors participate.

Place clean hobby supplies in a padded envelope or small box and ship them to the SleeveCycle using a preprinted label. Collectors are encouraged to bundle materials together to reduce shipping waste and improve the environmental impact of the program.

Yes. Hobby shops, card clubs, and community organizations are welcome to participate. We encourage shops and groups to organize collections of unused hobby supplies and send them to SleeveCycle.

Yes. SleeveCycle welcomes donations of unused or excess hobby supplies from card shops, distributors, event organizers, and other businesses in the trading card industry. Bulk donations can help divert large amounts of hobby plastics from landfill while providing materials that may be reused by collectors or community programs.

Yes! SleeveCycle is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on environmental stewardship within the trading card hobby.

Yes. SleeveCycle has applied for recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization with the Internal Revenue Service. Once our application is approved, donations will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and the determination will apply retroactively to the date the organization was formed.
